Hello,
The Fall 2026 October Term starts tomorrow!
Before we begin, let’s take a quick look at a fun part of modern Korean culture that you may have seen online:
📸 인생네컷 — Korea’s Four-Cut Photo Culture
Have you ever seen those adorable Korean photo strips where friends pose together and take four pictures in a row?
If you’ve watched a K-drama, followed K-pop idols, or browsed Korean social media, you may have seen them.
They’re called:
인생네컷
Insaeng neket
“Four cuts of life”
The name literally refers to four snapshots of a moment in your life.
Photo booths like these have become incredibly popular in Korea, especially among younger people. Friends, couples, families, and even K-pop fans enjoy taking photos together and keeping the little photo strips as memories.
And it’s not just about taking a picture.
It’s about creating a memory together.
🇰🇷 A Modern Korean Social Tradition
You might see Korean photo booths in busy shopping areas, near universities, inside entertainment districts, and in other places where people gather.
Many booths let you choose:
- Different backgrounds
- Frames and designs
- Fun props
- Stickers and decorations
- Different photo layouts
Some even feature collaborations with popular Korean celebrities, characters, or entertainment brands.
It’s become part of the experience of hanging out with friends.
You might go shopping, grab a meal, visit a café, and then finish the day by taking 인생네컷 together.
It’s a very modern example of how Korean culture continues to create new ways for people to connect and make memories.
💬 Today’s Korean: ~하고
Let’s learn a useful Beginner Level 2 expression that fits perfectly with today’s topic.
~하고
~hago
~하고 can mean “and” when connecting nouns, or “with” when talking about doing something with another person.
For example:
친구하고 사진을 찍어요.
Chinguhago sajineul jjigeoyo.
I take pictures with my friend.
친구하고 인생네컷을 찍어요.
Chinguhago insaeng neketeul jjigeoyo.
I take four-cut photos with my friend.
You can also connect things:
김치하고 불고기를 먹어요.
Gimchihago bulgogireul meogeoyo.
I eat kimchi and bulgogi.
And you can ask:
누구하고 사진을 찍어요?
Nuguhago sajineul jjigeoyo?
Who are you taking pictures with?
You could answer:
친구하고 찍어요.
Chinguhago jjigeoyo.
I’m taking pictures with my friend.
📸 Try It in Korean!
Imagine you’re visiting Korea with a friend.
You see a photo booth and want to take pictures.
You can say:
인생네컷 찍을까요?
Insaeng neket jjigeulkkayo?
Shall we take four-cut photos?
Your friend says:
네! 좋아요!
Ne! Joayo!
Yes! Sounds good!
Now you have a fun Korean memory to take home with you.
🌏 From K-Pop to Everyday Korean Culture
One of the things I love about Korean culture is that it’s constantly evolving.
K-pop.
K-dramas.
K-movies.
K-beauty.
K-food.
K-fashion.
And now, even small everyday experiences like 인생네컷 have become recognizable parts of modern Korean culture around the world.
Learning Korean isn’t only about memorizing grammar.
It’s also about understanding the culture behind the language.
When you understand how people actually live, communicate, socialize, and have fun, Korean becomes much more meaningful.
